The Buyer
The buyer purchases the tree allotments and once the entire payment
is made becomes the exclusive owner of the trees. As the owner of
the trees they may hold the trees for the entire harvesting life cycle
but also have the right to will, gift or sell the trees if
they wish. During the tree's life cycle period the owner has the
right to visit their trees at the plantation. They will also receive
periodic newsletters and prior to each harvest will receive notification
of what actions the plantation will be taking with their trees.
Owners have the right to harvest their own trees or have another
company do so if they wish.
The Life Cycle
The life cycle of the trees begins with the planting of the seed
in the nursery and allowing the seedling to grow to where it is
able to be transplanted at about 1 year. We then select the highest
quality seedlings for planting in the plantation. We space the seedlings
so as to create the best possible growth characteristics with the
least amount of thinning possible.
Once the seedlings have been planted we care for them over the
next 12 years working to assure the best growth patterns possible
are achieved. During this period we will give all the care, attention
and nurture that we give our own trees on the plantation.
The Harvest Cycle
About year 12 we will begin the harvesting cycle for your trees.
This harvesting cycle will last through year 25. During this time
we will select trees to harvest based on the need to thin areas
for greater growth of the other trees and their quality. Early on,
we will work to thin the trees that have the least desirable qualities
and keep those that in the long term will deliver the greatest possible
return when harvested.
About 90 days prior to harvesting we will contact the owners to
let them know the harvesting plan and attain their directions for
their trees. When the trees are harvest by the plantation we will
cut the trees, mill them into marketable lumber, kiln dry them,
and then sell the lumber on the international market at the highest
possible price.
The Financial Payment
Once the lumber is sold the plantation will send the entire proceeds
of the sale to the owner minus a small harvesting and processing
fee of not more than 15%. As there are always tax considerations
to be aware of, we have the opportunity to harvest yearly during
the final years of the harvest so as to minimize your tax bill.
Many operations only offer harvest in blocks usually 3 to 4 years
apart resulting in large chunks of income in some years followed
by nothing the next 2 to 3 years. |
