At first glance, these word might be considered fighting words. But before you make any rash judgements about the state of this writer's mind, I invite you to read the entire article and then make a decision. It is the intent of this article not to question the idea of whether or not Global Warming exists, but to question how the environmental community is falling into a dangerous trap by making it their primary focus in today's environmental debate. The continuance of this myopic focus will continue to disempower the environmental community and ultimately lead us down ineffectual paths as we chase the red herring into the continuing environmental demise.

It is a magician’s trick to get the audience to look at one hand as he completes the trick undetected with the other. In a sense, this is exactly what is taking place today. As the mainstream media plasters global warming everywhere, the systemic collapse of numerous ecosystems due to pollution, development, and so on continues hidden from view. As the news blitz drums on, few realize the dire state of our real situation. As if by magic, hidden from the public consciousness is the collapse of numerous ecosystems, the continued pollution of our water and air, the growing loss of agricultural land and forests, and the extinction of species at the fastest rate in world history.

Although one might believe that the global warming issue has brought about a greater consciousness, is this really the case. Today, we are still arguing about global warming and what to do about it. Although those in Washington admit its existence little if anything is being done about it. Yet, it is the only topic being discussed.
